Hockey Update 2/25
2026-02-26
The Steinbach Sabres faced elimination on Wednesday afternoon as they hosted the Oak Park Raiders for Game 2 of their WHSHL semifinal series. After a scoreless first period, the Raiders struck first on a shorthanded 2-on-0. The Sabres battled back against the adversity as Jager Bueckert pressed L1 on the controller yet again, turning a defenceman inside out before slipping the game-tying goal through the five-hole. The Sabres rode the momentum into the third as Oliver Campbell smashed home a loose puck at the tail end of a man-advantage midway through the final period. The Raiders pushed back and found the equalizer with a point shot through a screen with five minutes to go. Regulation solved nothing and overtime was required. On the third shift of OT, Jager Bueckert found a wide-open Peyton Froese in the slot, who promptly used his patented forehand, backhand finisher to send the Southeast Event Centre into a frenzy. Final score: SRSS 3 Oak Park 2 (OT). Kash Amor was on top of his game, stopping 33 of 35 shots, including a game-saving east-west push during the extra fun. Next - the Sabres head back to Eric Coy Arena for a winner-take-all Game 3 on Friday, February 27 (tomorrow) at 3:45 PM. Keep your stick on the ice and dig in the corners!

Hockey Update 2/24
2026-02-25
The SRSS Sabres hit the road to Winnipeg to meet the Oak Park Raiders in Game 1 of their WHSHL semifinal series. The Raiders opened the scoring on a three-on-one on the first shift of the game. The Sabres weathered the storm as Judah Thiessen got lost in the high slot and made no mistake with his high blocker shot, evening the game. The Raiders responded on another odd-man rush, this time with a perfectly placed shot past the glove. The teams traded chances in the second period, but the score remained 2-1 in favour of Oak Park after two. The Oak Park offence capitalized on some more odd-man rushes in the third, and Judah Thiessen tucked away the only SRSS goal on the front door after a heavy shift down low. Final score: Oak Park 7 SRSS 2. Kash Amor held the team in the game. Next: The Sabres once again need YOU to show up and cheer loudly at the Southeast Event Centre in Game 2 on Wednesday, February 25 (today) at 3:30 PM. See you at the rink and be ready to make some noise!

Hockey Update 2/20
2026-02-23
The Sabres hosted the CJS Olympiens for Game 3 of their WHSHL quarterfinal series on Friday afternoon at the Southeast Event Centre. The Sabres had a strong start to this one, but it was the Olympiens striking first for a third straight game as a one-timer from the half-wall was deflected into the cage on the powerplay. The Sabres responded with a powerplay marker of their own as Kyler Verestiuk waltzed down the half-wall and slipped his shot through the wickets of the CJS netminder. The teams traded chances in the middle frame, but it was the Olympiens capitalizing once again on the PP as their leading goal scorer walked into the heart of the home plate and ripped the go-ahead goal past the glovehand. The Sabres dug in and responded on the rush as Daniel Zuev fed Jager Bueckert, who made a beautiful loose puck deke and popped the bottle off the top of the net with his wrister past the CJS goaltender's ear in the final minute of the second. The teams were deadlocked heading into the third, and the tension in the building was high for the twenty minutes of do-or-die hockey. Hunter Crawford held the line and found Daniel Schroeder in the high slot, who promptly spun and fired the eventual game-winner past the glove of the CJS goaltender with just under twelve minutes to play. The Olympiens pushed hard in the final moments, but Kash Amor stood tall, making another 24 saves and earning his fourth win of the playoffs. Final score: SRSS 3 CJS 2. Stay tuned for next week's best-of-three schedule as your Sabres will take on the Oak Park Raiders in the WHSHL semifinals. Keep your stick on the ice!
