The Sabres Hockey team took part in the 2025 St. Michael Mustangs Invitational in Niagara Falls last week. The tournament featured 27 teams from Canada and one team from Ohio. Each team was guaranteed four games, with the top eight teams advancing to the playoffs. Each period was worth one point and each game was worth two points. The SRSS finished in first place overall after its four games, earning all four wins and 18 out of 20 possible points along the way.

The Sabres defeated the Niagara College Irish of Welland in the first game of the tournament. Vander Fehr picked up the win as Jager Bueckert notched a hat trick and Judah Thiessen and Peyton Froese also chipped in for a 5-2 win. The Sabres took on the Michael Power Trojans later that afternoon and found themselves in a 3-0 hole early in the second period. Kash Amor stopped the bleeding and earned the win in the comeback as Jager Bueckert (2), Judah Thiessen, Jett Bueckert and Terran Perreault found the back of the net.

The Sabres' continued to roll with a resounding 5-0 victory over the Milton Mustangs on Friday morning. Vander Fehr picked up the shutout as Daniel Schroeder, Jett Bueckert, Judah Thiessen, Jager Bueckert and Peytron Froese contributed on offense. The Sabres clinched first place heading into the playoffs with a 6-2 win over the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears. Kash Amor earned the W as Kyler Verestiuk (2), Daniel Schroeder, Jager Bueckert, Nate Zilinski and Hunter Schamber each scored.

The Sabres advanced to the playoffs and took on the defending champion St. Charles Cardinals on Saturday morning in the 1v8 quarterfinal matchup. The Sabres were playing catch-up all game long as Rhys Guenther split the defence on a breakaway to tie the game at 1-1 and Peyton Froese sniped on a 5-on-3 to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the second. The Cards added a powerplay goal in the second to take a 3-2 lead into the final frame. The Sabres found the equalizer with the goalie pulled and just over a minute to play as Jager Bueckert fired a puck through traffic to make it 3-3. Unfortunately, the Cards responded yet again and smashed home the go-ahead goal with twenty seconds remaining. Kash Amor was sensational between the pipes.
