Hockey Update 1/26
2026-01-27
The SRSS Sabres (15-4) hit the road to Winnipeg to take on the Beliveau Barracudas (10-8-1) on Monday afternoon. The bus legs were evident early once again as the Sabres fell behind 2-0 with a pair of goals over the span of three shifts halfway through the first period. Peyton Froese answered for the Sabres with his second of the season as he walked the line and sent a laser through traffic that beat the 'Cudas netminder cleanly. The Sabres took control of the game in the second frame as Kyler Verestiuk hit Oli Campbell with a perfect pass on a 3-on-2, leading to Campbell roofing the tying goal bar-South on the blocker side. Campbell struck again a couple of shifts later as he was fed on the cross-seam during a delayed penalty and promptly popped the water bottle off the top of the net with a glove-side snipe to take the lead. The Sabres took the momentum into the third period as a Hunter Schamber point shot rebound was lying around in front for Campbell to complete his hat-trick. Peyton Froese notched his second marker of the game on the rush as his snapshot blew past the glove hand. Final score: SRSS 5 Beliveau 2. Kash Amor stood tall, earning his tenth W of the season. Next, the Sabres travel back to Winnipeg to take on the Westwood Warriors on Wednesday, January 28. Keep your stick on the ice!

Hockey Update 1/22
2026-01-23
The SRSS Sabres (13-4) navigated the frosty tundra to take on the Miles Mac Buckeyes (6-12-1) at the Gateway Arena on Thursday afternoon in Winnipeg. The Buckeyes struck first on a shorthanded breakaway halfway through the first period. The Sabres responded as a Peyton Froese wrister was redirected by Judah Thiessen to make it 1-1. The two teams remained even in the second frame, although the Sabres failed to capitalize on three Grade A scoring chances in the period. The third frame was a Wild West of sorts as defending was at a premium. Judah Thiessen found Jager Bueckert with a low-to-high pass and then smashed home the rebound for his second of the game on the opening shift of the period. The Buckeyes responded shortly after on a rebound off the back wall that ended up on the front door. The Sabres got back to work immediately as Judah Thiessen fed a backdoor pass for Jager Bueckert to deflect home on the rush, taking a 3-2 lead. The Buckeyes doubled down, this time on a deflection off a powerplay point shot. Unfazed, the SRSS powerplay went back to work moments later as Oli Campbell was Oli on the spot, chipping in the go ahead goal from a rebound. On the ensuing shift, the Buckeyes got the biscuit deep and used a strong sense of urgency to score from in tight, making it 4-4. The game required overtime, in which the Sabres displayed patience and possession for four straight minutes. The home fans were technically Buckeyes supporters, but it was the away fans who went nuts as Jager Bueckert was up to his old tricks, dangling a pair of defenders before fooling the goaltender à la Alex Ovechkin while sliding on his back. Final score: SRSS 5 Miles Mac 4 (OT). Vander Fehr ensured the buck stopped here, and made many tough stops of his 28 shots, earning his sixth win of the campaign. The Sabres are off to Winnipeg again on Monday, January 26 to take on the Beliveau Barracudas. Keep your stick on the ice!
