| Boys Indoor Soccer 2026-02-19 | The SRSS Boys Soccer team remained in the hunt for a "final four" position with an exciting 3-2 over Pembina Trails yesterday afternoon. The played a disciplined match, counter attacking at the right times and playing a scrappy brand of defense to earn the 3pts. The Sabres were buoyed by the goalkeeping of Philip Wiebe, who had his best game of the season. Noah Wiebe led the squads backline but managed to get forward enough times to finish-off two long range efforts. Fellow senior Justin Hamilton rounded out the scoring with a calm and decisive finish after being sent in on a partial breakaway. The Sabres will be in control of their own destiny on Wednesday when they face Shaftesbury. A win by any margin gets them a spot in the semifinals |

| Hockey Update 2/18 2026-02-19 | The SRSS Sabres hosted the CJS Olympiens for Game 1 of the WHSHL's quarterfinal 4v5 series on Wednesday afternoon at the Southeast Event Centre. The Olympiens were credited with a goal under two minutes into the game as a low-to-high pass to an open CJS forward in the slot clanked off of both posts and ricocheted away from the net. The Sabres replied on the powerplay several minutes later as Ty Brewster found Jager Bueckert on the royal road seam, who ripped the game-tying goal through the glove of the CJS netminder. The Sabres appeared to have taken the lead with another powerplay goal just a minute or two later, but it was instead waved off as a high stick. There would be no scoring until the first shift of the final frame as Peyton Froese sent a lawn dart the length of the ice, springing Bueckert in all alone behind the CJS defence, sending his go-ahead tally past the glove. The Sabres added insurance as Oli Campbell fed a pass to Kyler Verestiuk on a 2-on-1, making it 3-1 for the Black and Gold. The Sabres salted away the clock and added a fourth tally as Jager Bueckert won a race and fired the biscuit into the empty net. Final score: SRSS 4 CJS 1. Kash Amor was outstanding, stopping 24 of the 25 shots he faced, including a toe save to keep it 1-1 in the second period. The Sabres travel to Winnipeg for Game 2 at the Dakota Community Centre on the afternoon of Thursday, February 19 at 4:00 PM. Keep your stick on the ice! |

| Grade 9 Boys Basketball 2026-02-16 | Congratulations to the Grade 9 boys basketball team on their second-place finish at our home tournament this past weekend. They were able to make a 13 point comeback with less than 3 minutes left in the semis against JH Bruns, ending with a 14-1 run to make it to the finals in front of a loud home crowd. Unfortunately, they ran out of steam in the second half of the finals, losing to St. Pauls. For the year, the boys were the first Grade 9 team to go undefeated in league play from our school, finishing a perfect 7-0 against largely Grade 10 students from zone 13. In their three tournaments, they finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, finishing on the top side of every tournament draw they entered. Their end-of-season record is 12-4. Congratulations to Nixon Barkman and Devin Vallieres on their league MVP nominations. I will update if one of them comes away with the title! |
