The SRSS guidance department welcomes parental involvement and encourages parents to play an active and on-going role in their child’s education. Parents are invited to contact the school in regards to student attendance, general well-being, behaviour, and academic progress, or with any other concerns that they might have.

Attendance
If you have any questions about the SRSS attendance policy and procedures, please contact the administrator responsible for your child’s grade. If you need to excuse your student’s absences, or notify the school of upcoming events that will keep him or her from classes please contact the general office.

Student Well-Being
The SRSS guidance staff is trained to counsel students in a variety of areas including grief and loss, esteem and identity issues, self harm, self management, and interpersonal and intrapersonal skill development. Students are invited to visit their counsellor if they find difficulty in going to classes for emotional or psychological reasons. If you have any concerns about your child’s emotional or psychological well-being you are encouraged to let his or her counsellor know.

Behaviour
Please contact the administrator for your child’s grade if you have concerns about their behaviour or the behaviour of other students. If it is a disciplinary concern then the administrator will deal with it directly. Should extraordinary circumstances exist, the appropriate administrator may co-ordinate with the resource and/or guidance departments to develop a behavioural plan or intervention if or when needed. Students with any kind of special behavioural need are looked after by a team made up of an administrator, a resource teacher, and a guidance counsellor.

Academics
The best person to contact regarding your child’s academic progress in any class is his or her subject-area teacher. In the event that academic needs or other concerns arise, counsellors work together with resource and the subject area teacher to put together and implement a plan for student success. Parents who talk with their students about their plans, help them develop strategies, and co-ordinate with their student’s teacher can help make the process go much more smoothly. We invite our students to visit us with more specific questions about post secondary academic opportunities and enjoy sharing with them the most recent information available.
