Welding: Gold Medal
What an intense couple of days we had at the welding competition. David’s time in this competition was split between two days; each day David was starting and finishing a brand-new project. Day one project was heavily influenced by the history of Old Quebec, specifically the tower fortifications on 97 Saint-Louis St Quebec City; which was built in 1608 to 1871. Day 2 was not inspired by any building in Quebec but was still an impressive piece of art; day 2 focused on more heavy duty plate over art.

This was an incredible experience for David, he was grateful for the opportunity to showcase everything he has learned in his time in the welding program and in industry. A moment in time he will never forget. With all of the effort David put in he was awarded Gold Metal on Sunday afternoon.

Car Painting: Silver Medal
The car painting competition was 2 days. Day 1 consisted of sanding and polishing a hood and applying a decal in the morning, prepping and painting a bumper in the afternoon. Samara was disappointed with her performance in the morning but came back strong in the afternoon and did really well. On the 2nd day in the morning she fixed a scratch in a bumper, prepped and primed it; as well as masked the whole side of an SUV. In the afternoon, she had to colour match a white colour without a paint code, spray it on a card and document her formula as well as tint a colour to match an existing colour. She worked very hard and her practice paid off. She earned a silver medal at the national competition. She learned that pushing through disappointment and facing the next project head on is how to get stronger mentally to get the job done. These are things that will help her in the future.

Carpentry: Bronze Medal
The carpentry competition took place over two days. Micah was given a set of blueprints and the construction materials to build his project. He worked tirelessly and consistently throughout the entire competition being one of the competitors that had a lot of people watching him due to the quality of his work. He was awarded a Bronze medal for his efforts.

Hairstyling: Bronze Medal
The hairstyling competition consisted of two days performing four separate projects. Each project has a set of “client wishes”. The wishes represent what a client may ask for in a salon. These wishes are not revealed to the student competing until right before the start of each project; this of course makes this competition difficult. The projects are a variety of components including haircuts, styling, perming, colour on a variety of mannequins both male and female. Alyse completed each project with excellence and poise and was awarded a Bronze medal in her competition.

Cabinet Making
The cabinet making competition took place over two days. Bernd was given a set of blueprints and all the cherry lumber to make his project. He worked tirelessly and overcame many obstacles and challenges throughout the build. He was not awarded a medal for his efforts but received many compliments for his efforts and workmanship.
